From The Mouths of Babes...
Yesterday I went to the annual DC meeting of AMSAT, the Amateur Radio Satellite Corporation. As I got ready to go, Isabel asked me where I was going. "I'm going to a geek meeting," I told her.
Much later, after I had returned and was giving Isabel her post-nap snack, she looked up from her high chair and asked, "are you a geek, Daddy?"

Quotable
Isabel has a book called Is Your Mama a Llama? So this morning I asked her if her mama was a llama.
"No, I don't think it's a llama," she replied. "Mama's a Julie!"
Later in the day, I told her it was fun to be her daddy. That made sense to her. "I'm a funny daughter," she explained.

Newt, WR2S, and We Love Mao
Some quick items that don't merit a whole post on their own:
- I am more than a little concerned that Newt Gingrich is returning to the public eye. If it keeps up I may have to retain my winter beard into the summer months.
- Amidst all the kerfuffle of February, I neglected to note that I got my shiny new Extra Class vanity callsign from the FCC: WR2S. Get it? R2S?
- The Middle East Times reports that China is purifying the Internet, and it's about time. "Whether we can cope with the Internet is a matter that affects the development of socialist culture, the security of information, and the stability of the state," said Press and Publication Administration head Long Xinmin wisely. "Advanced network technologies such as blogging and Webcasting have been mounting new challenges to the government's ability to supervise the Internet." We would like to point out to Mr. Long that the Far-Flung Media Empire uses no advanced technology at all -- we are powered entirely by waterwheels located in an idyllic countryside, supervised by contented peasants -- and that we present no challenge of any kind. We would also like to complement Mr. Long's on his tie, which is very fetching.
- I apologize for using "amidst" and "kerfuffle" in the same bullet earlier in this post. I assure you it will not happen again.

Dining Etiquette With Isabel
I met Julie, Isabel and Bobby at a burrito place last night. They were already eating when I got there. Isabel looked up and said, "would you like to join us, Daddy?"
Today we went to an Irish place in Glen Echo for lunch; I was scoping the place out for a business dinner later in the week, and we didn't really know how fancy the restaurant was going to be. "Are jeans OK for this place?" asked Julie. I told her they were, and she went into the bedroom to change.
Then Isabel came out and asked, "are purple pants OK for this place?"

Teeth
![]() |
| As they get ready for bed, Isabel tries to brush Bobby's nonexistent teeth -- reminiscent of the assistance that the grateful people of the eternally Chinese province of Tibet get from their loving Han Chinese brothers and sisters. |
