What’s Good for the U-goose is Good for the Uganda
Greetings from Kampala, allegedly the greenest city in Africa. One might be forgiven for looking askance on a city that takes pride mostly in its wavelengths of visible light. But in my limited observation Kampala seems to be a pretty likeable city. I would post a picture of it below, perhaps of its rolling hills, or the majestic countryside around Entebbe (it’s not just a raid anymore), but last night some weasel stole my camera.
I presume it happened when I was transferring at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi (which surely has to be the reddest city in Africa, but they don’t go on and on about that, now do they?). My presumption is based on theft being a popular activity in Nairobi, and the fact that my bag was there for about three hours between flights. Enough time for someone to open it up, take my camera and its telephoto lens out of their respective carrying cases, and re-close the bag, politely latching the sides so that it wouldn’t fly open in a cargo bin. Thanks, mister! I also appreciate, though don’t really understand, your not taking my radio or binoculars. I guess it’s only the Israelis who are interested in my binoculars.
Ironically, the lock on the case was broken by TSA on my last flight to Nairobi. They tell you not to lock it, but I wasn’t going to Nairobi with an unlocked suitcase! That would be madness.
Tomorrow I’m off to Kabale in the southwest, where I will not be taking any pictures of mountain gorillas.
